This is one of those mockUmentarys that give your eye the double take. Going in to this film I didn’t know Frankie Wilde wasn’t a real Dj. Brilliant. Heart-Tugging. Joyful.

My New Obsession: Deal or No Deal

Ok, rarely does a show come across my grid that inspires me to make sure I am sitting at the boob tube at the correct time. Deal or No Deal has to be one of the greatest shows to come around in a long time. They show has this great sensiblity behind it that grips contestants and viewers alike. There are not many shows that put you in the game like DND.

deal

The game is greed based and peels the layers of human nature and the power of suggestion. Watch this game and see what I mean.
Contestants choose among 26 briefcases, each
held by identically dressed beautiful women, filled with varying
amounts of money.
“The game requires no more skill than playing a slot machine or roulette
- but Las Vegas was built on precisely that sort of mindlessly
compelling game of chance. What makes “Deal or No Deal” watchable is
its very simplicity.
It is about risking too much and losing what you have by wanting more.

PODCAST: Cinderella Man: the film that gets inside.

Cinderella Man: the film that gets inside.

ciderellaman

There are many films to see and walk away with the "I saw it, it was good" feeling. Cinderella Man is not one of them. Ron Howard is one of a few cinematic storytellers that captures the heart and makes his mark somewhere inside you. He fills you up much like a great sermon from the pulpit. This is not a must see film, it is a must. (period)

Gordon Parks: SHAFTED

gordon parks

I got to meet Mr. Parks in 91 or 92 while i was in attending Quaker Valley High..

Me, as well as everyone else there being a naive white and black kids from the suburbs. We thought we were just meeting some poet from somewhere far away from us telling us stories about things we couldn't recognize then. Dumb move.

It was later in college i made a huge discovery in the form of Richard Roundtree as the immortal SHAFT.
I never got to ask Gordon the many questions I had for him and still do about the films and his filmaking process.

Well Mr. Parks, I guess I'll hold my questions till after class.
yours truly,
